This bonded bronze statue depicts the Egyptian goddess Bastet in her feline form, elegantly seated atop a decorative music box. The base is adorned with hieroglyphs and painted reliefs of Egyptian figures, reflecting ancient artistic motifs. Bastet, originally a lioness warrior goddess, later became associated with domestic cats, symbolizing protection, fertility, and music. She was widely worshiped from around 3000 BCE to 400 CE, particularly in Bubastis, Egypt. Her cult flourished during the New Kingdom and Late Period, where she was revered as a benevolent deity, protector of homes, and bringer of joy. The music box echoes her link to festivity.
