Description

Product description

This bonded bronze statue represents Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of mummification and the afterlife. Depicted with a muscular form and a jackal head, he holds a staff, symbolizing his role as a protector of the dead. Worshiped from the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3100 BCE) to the Greco-Roman era, Anubis guided souls through the underworld and oversaw the weighing of the heart ceremony. He was primarily revered in Cynopolis and associated with tombs and necropolises across Egypt. His significance declined as Osiris took prominence as the lord of the dead, but his role as a guardian remained vital in funerary practices.
