Description

Product description

This replica is inspired by the famous Vapheio Cup, discovered in a tholos tomb near Vapheio in Laconia, close to Sparta. Dating to the 15th century BCE, during the height of the Mycenaean civilization, the original cup is renowned for its detailed relief scenes depicting the capture and taming of wild bulls. The artistry reflects both Minoan influence from Crete and the rising power of Mycenaean Greece in the Late Bronze Age.

The Vapheio Cups were unearthed in 1889 and are now housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. Such vessels were likely used in elite feasting rituals, symbolizing wealth, authority, and mastery over nature. They represent a fusion of artistic refinement and warrior aristocracy characteristic of the Aegean world between 1600–1400 BCE.

The cup’s iconic design later gained modern recognition through its visual resemblance to a drinking vessel used by Tyrion Lannister in the television series Game of Thrones.
