This bonded bronze statue represents Thoth, the ibis-headed Egyptian god of wisdom, writing, and the moon. Holding a scroll, he symbolizes knowledge and the recording of time. As the divine scribe, Thoth was credited with creating hieroglyphs and maintaining cosmic order (Ma'at). He played a crucial role in the weighing of souls in the afterlife. Worshiped from the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3100 BCE) to the Greco-Roman era, his primary cult center was Hermopolis (Khmunu), with significant reverence in Abydos and Thebes. Thoth was regarded as the mediator of gods, a guardian of sacred texts, and a patron of scholars.
