Product description

This bonded bronze statue represents Sobek, the crocodile-headed Egyptian god of strength, fertility, and protection. Depicted with a muscular form, he holds an ankh and a was-scepter, symbols of life and power. Revered as a fierce guardian, Sobek was believed to control the Nile’s waters and protect against chaos. Worshiped from the Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BCE) to the Ptolemaic period, his major cult centers included Crocodilopolis (Faiyum), Kom Ombo, and Thebes. Temples dedicated to him often housed sacred crocodiles, which were mummified after death. Sobek embodied both the dangers and blessings of the Nile, vital to Egyptian life.
