This bonded bronze figure represents Ra, the ancient Egyptian sun god and creator deity. Worshiped from the Second Dynasty (c. 2890 BCE) to the end of the Ptolemaic period (332–30 BCE), he is depicted with a falcon head crowned by a sun disk. Ra sailed across the sky in his solar barque, bringing light and order, and journeyed through the underworld at night to be reborn each morning. His major cult center was Heliopolis, where grand temples honored him. Ra merged with other deities, like Amun-Ra, becoming Egypt’s supreme god. His influence shaped Egyptian kingship, mythology, and religious beliefs.
