Description

Product description

This bonded bronze statue depicts Plato, the renowned ancient Greek philosopher, seated thoughtfully with a book, symbolizing his pursuit of knowledge. The inscriptions on the base reflect his teachings: "Ignorance, the root and stem of all evil," and "Good people do not need laws to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws." Plato (427–347 BCE) founded the Academy in Athens, one of the first institutions of higher learning. A student of Socrates and teacher of Aristotle, he explored ethics, politics, and metaphysics. His seminal works, such as The Republic, examine justice, governance, and the ideal society.
