Description

Product description

This mask is inspired by representations of Pan, the ancient Greek god of the wild, shepherds, music, and rustic fertility. Recognizable by his expressive, often rugged features, Pan embodied the untamed aspects of nature and the boundary between civilization and the natural world. His image was believed to inspire both fear and protection, giving rise to the concept of “panic,” a term derived from his sudden, overwhelming presence.

Masks depicting Pan originated in ancient Greek ritual and theatrical traditions, developing during the Archaic period and remaining prominent through the Classical and Hellenistic eras, approximately from the 6th to the 2nd centuries BCE. They were especially common in rural sanctuaries and mountainous regions such as Arcadia, Pan’s mythological homeland, as well as throughout mainland Greece.
