Description

Product description

This sculptural replica is inspired by the celebrated Ladies in Blue fresco discovered at the Palace of Knossos on the island of Crete. Dating to the Minoan Neopalatial period (circa 1600–1500 BCE), the original artwork formed part of a vibrant wall painting that once adorned the ceremonial spaces of the palace complex. Today, the restored fresco fragments are housed in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum.

The Ladies in Blue depict elegantly dressed women wearing elaborate coiffures, open bodices, and layered garments, reflecting the sophistication and prominence of women in Minoan society. Their poised gestures and refined appearance suggest participation in ritual or courtly ceremonies within the palace’s religious and social life. Minoan frescoes were created using mineral pigments applied to wet plaster, resulting in vivid imagery that conveyed movement and vitality. This replica captures the grace, symmetry, and ceremonial presence that define one of the most iconic representations of Bronze Age Aegean culture.
