Description

Product description

This sculpture is inspired by the Geometric Greek horse votive statuettes produced during the Late Geometric period (c. 750–725 BCE). These small figures were commonly dedicated in major Greek sanctuaries such as Olympia, Delphi, and other sacred sites across the Greek world. Worshippers offered them to the gods as symbols of devotion, prosperity, and social prestige. Horses held particular importance in ancient Greek society because they were associated with aristocratic status, warfare, and chariot competitions held at religious festivals.

The original sculptures were typically created by anonymous Greek artisans using the lost-wax casting technique and display the distinctive abstract style of the Geometric era, where animals were reduced to bold, balanced shapes such as elongated bodies, triangular legs, and arched necks.

Examples of these ancient votive horses are preserved today in museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where a well-known example dated to about 750–725 BCE is displayed in the Greek and Roman galleries.
