Description

Product description

This bonded bronze statue depicts Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of mummification and the afterlife, holding the scales of Ma’at. On the scales, a heart is weighed against a feather, symbolizing truth and justice. This ritual, the "Weighing of the Heart," determined whether the deceased was pure enough to enter the afterlife. Anubis, often portrayed with a jackal head, guided souls and protected tombs. He was worshiped predominantly during the Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BCE) and retained significance in later periods. The fine details of this piece, including Anubis' ornate attire and the scales, emphasize his role in divine judgment.
