Description

Product description

Alexander campaigned in Asia Minor in 334 BC. to free the Greek cities from the Persian oligarchies and take revenge for the Persian invasion of Greece 150 years ago. The lands he later conquered stretched from Egypt to what was then India. There his army mutinied. Alexander died of a fever, - some say of poison, - in Babylon in 323 BC. His state was divided among his successors and this marked the Hellenistic period, which is characterized by the spread of the Greek language and culture in all the lands he conquered. This period lasted until the middle of the 2nd century BC, when the Romans slowly began to conquer the lands of Alexander's descendants.
