Description

Product description

This bonded bronze figure depicts Socrates, the renowned Greek philosopher (469–399 BCE), standing in a contemplative pose, draped in a traditional robe and holding a scroll. Known as the father of Western philosophy, Socrates emphasized critical thinking and dialogue, pioneering the Socratic method—questioning to stimulate thought and uncover truth. He challenged Athenian norms, urging self-examination and ethical living. His ideas, recorded by his student Plato, shaped philosophy, ethics, and logic. Accused of corrupting youth and impiety, he was sentenced to death, choosing to drink hemlock rather than betray his principles. His legacy endures as a symbol of wisdom and integrity.
