This bonded bronze statue represents Sekhmet, the lion-headed Egyptian goddess of war, healing, and protection. Seated regally, she holds a scepter, symbolizing power, and wears the solar disk, linking her to the sun god Ra. Feared and revered, Sekhmet was believed to unleash plagues yet also had the power to heal. She was worshiped from the Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BCE) through the Greco-Roman period, primarily in Memphis, Thebes, and Karnak, where numerous statues were erected in her honor. Her cult played a significant role in Egyptian rituals, particularly in times of war and during healing ceremonies.
