This bonded bronze figure represents Osiris, the ancient Egyptian god of the afterlife, resurrection, and fertility. Worshiped from the Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BCE) to the Ptolemaic period (332–30 BCE), he is depicted mummified, holding a crook and flail, symbols of kingship. Osiris ruled the underworld, judging souls in the afterlife. He was central to Egyptian mythology, embodying rebirth and eternal life. Major cult centers included Abydos, where annual festivals reenacted his resurrection. His worship spread throughout Egypt, influencing later religious traditions. Pharaohs sought to embody Osiris, ensuring their divine status in the afterlife.
