Description

Product description

This cup is a replica of the iconic spiral-decorated drinking vessels unearthed in Grave Circle A at Mycenae, one of the most important archaeological sites of Bronze Age Greece. Dating to the Late Helladic I period (c. 1600–1500 BCE), these cups were found in the richly furnished shaft graves of elite Mycenaean warriors and leaders. The swirling spiral patterns reflect an artistic vocabulary shared across the Aegean, blending abstract design with symbolic meaning that may relate to life, motion, and the sea.

Mycenae, located in the northeastern Peloponnese, was a powerful early Greek center whose influence spread across the region. Vessels like this would have been used in feasting and ritual contexts, emphasizing social status and communal bonds in an era when display of wealth and honor was central to elite identity. Original examples from Grave Circle A are housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, testifying to the culture’s sophisticated metalwork and ceremonial traditions.
