Description

Product description

This body armour represents the defensive equipment worn by Greek hoplites during the Archaic and Classical periods, from the late 7th to the 5th century BCE. Designed to protect the torso while allowing controlled movement, such armour formed a crucial part of the hoplite panoply used in tightly organized phalanx warfare.

The cuirass is shaped to follow the human form, emphasizing the chest and upper body. Subtle surface detailing and reinforced edges reflect both functional strength and aesthetic refinement. The pairing of body armour with a crested helmet underscores the visual authority of the hoplite, whose appearance was meant to project discipline, unity, and civic pride on the battlefield.

This type of armour was widely used across mainland Greece, particularly in regions such as Attica, the Peloponnese, and central Greece, where citizen armies formed the backbone of military defense. Beyond warfare, body armour carried symbolic meaning, representing duty to the city-state and the ideal of the armed citizen.
