This bonded bronze statue represents Demeter, the Greek goddess of agriculture, harvest, and fertility. She is depicted in flowing robes, holding a cornucopia filled with fruits and a golden sheaf of wheat, symbolizing abundance and nourishment. Demeter’s most famous myth is the abduction of her daughter, Persephone, by Hades. In grief, she caused the earth to wither, creating winter. When Persephone was allowed to return for part of the year, Demeter’s joy brought spring and summer. This cycle of loss and reunion symbolized the changing seasons, reinforcing her role as a life-giving deity worshipped in the Eleusinian Mysteries.
