Description

Product description

The Corinthian helmet is one of the most recognizable forms of military equipment from ancient Greece and a defining element of the hoplite warrior’s armor. Developed during the 7th century BCE in the city of Corinth, this helmet type quickly spread throughout the Greek world and became widely used during the Archaic and early Classical periods (7th–5th century BCE). Hoplite soldiers from major city-states such as Sparta and Athens wore this helmet as part of their heavy infantry equipment.

Its distinctive design provided both protection and a powerful visual identity. The helmet encloses the head with narrow almond-shaped eye openings, a pronounced nasal guard, and extended cheek pieces that shield the face. A crest ridge along the top originally supported a plume, enhancing the warrior’s imposing appearance in battle.

Used across mainland Greece and later in Greek colonies throughout the Mediterranean, the Corinthian helmet became a lasting symbol of the discipline, courage, and military culture of the ancient Greek hoplite.
