Description

Product description

This helmet draws inspiration from the iconic Corinthian war helmets worn by Greek hoplites during the Archaic and early Classical periods, roughly between the 7th and 5th centuries BCE. Originating in the city of Corinth and widely adopted across the Greek world—including Sparta, Athens, and the Peloponnese—this helmet type became a defining symbol of the disciplined heavy infantry that dominated ancient Greek warfare.

The form displays the characteristic features of the Corinthian style: almond-shaped eye openings, a long nose guard, and a fully enveloping facial structure designed to protect the warrior while maintaining an intimidating battlefield presence. Rising from the crown is a stylized crest support shaped in the form of a sweeping ridge, echoing the dramatic horsehair plumes that once crowned elite hoplite warriors.

A distinctive ornamental detail appears on the cheek guard, where a finely rendered griffin head motif is engraved. In Greek mythology, the griffin symbolized guardianship, strength, and divine vigilance. Decorative engravings along the helmet’s edges further emphasize the artistic craftsmanship typical of Greek military equipment, where protection and symbolic prestige were equally valued.
