This statue represents a Kore (meaning “maiden”), a type of votive figure dedicated in sanctuaries during the Archaic Period of ancient Greece (circa 650–480 BCE). The original examples were discovered on the Acropolis of Athens, where they were offered to the goddess Athena. Korai typically depict young women standing upright, clothed in elaborately draped garments, and holding symbolic offerings such as fruit, flowers, or birds.

The apple held in her hand reflects themes of fertility, devotion, and divine offering, suggesting her role as a sacred dedication rather than a portrait of an individual. These figures were originally brightly painted and served both religious and artistic purposes, marking a significant development in naturalism and sculptural technique during the 6th century BCE.
