Description

Περιγραφή προϊόντος

Jason is a central figure in Greek mythology, best known for his quest for the Golden Fleece, a symbol of kingship and authority, which he sought to retrieve in order to reclaim his rightful throne. The son of Aeson, the rightful king of Iolcus, Jason's throne was usurped by his uncle Pelias. Pelias, clinging to a prophecy that he would be overthrown by a relative, sent Jason on what he believed to be an impossible mission to retrieve the Golden Fleece from the land of Colchis. To accomplish this, Jason assembled a team of heroes known as the Argonauts, named after their ship, the Argo. This team included some of the most renowned figures of Greek mythology, such as Hercules, Orpheus, and Castor and Pollux. The quest for the Golden Fleece involved numerous adventures and trials, from battling harpies to sowing dragon's teeth that sprang up as armed warriors. Upon reaching Colchis, Jason was aided by the princess Medea, who fell in love with him. With her magical assistance, Jason was able to overcome the various challenges imposed by Aeëtes, the king of Colchis and father of Medea, including yoking fire-breathing bulls and defeating the sleepless dragon that guarded the fleece. Jason's successful return with the Golden Fleece marked him as a quintessential hero, although his subsequent actions, particularly his betrayal of Medea, cast a shadow over his heroic achievements. This is a replica figure of Bertel Thorvaldsen's sculpture of Jason with the Golden Fleece. Its a magnificent representation of the famous Greek hero, Jason, and is considered one of Thorvaldsen's masterpieces. This sculpture, embodying both the neoclassical movement's ideals and the artist's skill in capturing the grace and strength of human figures, has a rich narrative behind it, both in terms of the mythological story it depicts and its creation by Thorvaldsen. Thorvaldsen's depiction of Jason is both majestic and serene. Jason stands tall, life-size in the original clay version and even more imposing in the later marble rendition, which reaches a height of 242 cm (95 inches). The hero is depicted in a moment of calm triumph, holding the Golden Fleece over his left shoulder, while his right hand grasps a spear, grounding the figure and giving it a sense of poised readiness. The attention to physical detail, from the muscles tensing beneath the skin to the calm yet determined expression on Jason's face, showcases Thorvaldsen's mastery over his medium. The sculpture exudes the confidence and heroism associated with Jason, rendered with a precision and sensitivity that breathes life into the ancient tale.
