Dating to approximately 750–700 BCE, during the Archaic period, the original piece reflects the rising artistic and religious expression of early Greek city-states. The authentic artifact is preserved today in the Archaeological Museum of Olympia.

In ancient Greece, horses symbolized wealth, status, and aristocratic power. Small sculptural representations such as this were dedicated by worshippers at major sanctuaries, especially at Olympia, a pan-Hellenic religious center devoted to Zeus. These offerings were often presented in gratitude for victory, prosperity, or divine favor. The stylized features—elongated muzzle, alert ears, and defined mane—reflect the geometric and early Archaic artistic style that emphasized abstraction and symbolic strength rather than realism. Produced in workshops across the Peloponnese, such figures embody the spiritual devotion and competitive spirit that defined early Greek culture. This replica captures the noble simplicity and sacred character of one of antiquity’s earliest equine representations.
