This refined replica is inspired by Hellenistic oinochoai decorated with the head of Herakles, examples of which are preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The original vessels date to the 1st century BC and were crafted in Magna Graecia and across the eastern Mediterranean during the late Hellenistic period.

Herakles—known to the Romans as Hercules—was revered as the embodiment of strength, endurance, and divine protection. His leonine features recall the Nemean Lion, the first of his Twelve Labors, making his image especially appropriate for sympotic and ceremonial vessels. Such pieces were used in elite banquets for pouring wine and libations, symbolizing both refinement and heroic virtue.

In antiquity, luxury vessels were often constructed with precious outer surfaces and practical interior linings; this replica follows that tradition, featuring a copper interior consistent with historical metalworking practices. The elegant proportions and sculptural handle ornament reflect the artistic sophistication of the Hellenistic world.
