This replica draws inspiration from the type of sword associated with Odysseus, the legendary king of Ithaca and central hero of the Odyssey. Traditionally dated to the 13th century BCE, Odysseus belongs to the Late Bronze Age world of the Mycenaean Greeks. Archaeological discoveries from Mycenaean centers such as Mycenae and across the Aegean reveal long, tapering swords carried by elite warriors and rulers of the period.

These weapons were crafted and used throughout mainland Greece, particularly in the Peloponnese and Ionian regions. Designed primarily for thrusting combat, they symbolized rank, authority, and battlefield skill. In epic tradition, Odysseus is celebrated not only for strength but for cunning and strategy, traits that made him indispensable in the Trojan War and his long journey home.

Swords of this type reflect the martial culture of Mycenaean Greece, an era when warrior-kings ruled fortified palaces and heroic legend blended with historical reality.
