This replica represents the type of long thrusting sword associated with the legendary hero Achilles, central figure of the Iliad. While Achilles himself belongs to epic tradition, the weapons attributed to him reflect real Mycenaean swords discovered in elite burials at Grave Circle A in Mycenae. Dating from the 16th to 13th century BCE, these swords were crafted during the height of Mycenaean power in the Late Bronze Age.

Mycenaean warriors dominated mainland Greece and the Aegean, forging advanced bronze blades designed primarily for thrusting combat. Such weapons symbolized noble rank and battlefield prestige, often buried with princes and war leaders. Tradition holds that Achilles’ divine armor and arms were forged by Hephaestus, reflecting the elevated status of the warrior elite.

Swords of this type were produced and used across the Peloponnese, particularly in Mycenae and surrounding regions, embodying the martial excellence and heroic ideals of Bronze Age Greece.
