This bonded bronze figure represents Maat, the ancient Egyptian goddess of truth, justice, and cosmic order. Worshiped from the Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BCE) to the Ptolemaic period (332–30 BCE), she is depicted in a flowing robe, often crowned with an ostrich feather, symbolizing truth. Maat played a crucial role in the afterlife, where hearts were weighed against her feather. Her principles governed both mortal and divine realms. Though she had no major temples, shrines to her existed in Karnak and other complexes. Pharaohs upheld Maat’s laws to maintain balance, shaping Egypt’s moral and legal foundations for millennia.
