At the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BCE, he employed a brilliant defensive strategy, using the narrow pass to neutralize the Persian army's numerical advantage. His small force held the pass for days, inflicting heavy casualties. His tactical sacrifice delayed the Persians, allowing Greek forces to regroup and ultimately defeat Persia.
