This bonded bronze statue represents Bastet, the ancient Egyptian goddess of home, fertility, and protection. She is depicted with a feline head, symbolizing her role as a guardian and bringer of joy. Originally worshiped as a lioness warrior, she later became associated with domestic cats and gentler aspects of life. Bastet was revered from the Second Dynasty (c. 2890 BCE) to the Greco-Roman era, with her main cult center in Bubastis. She was believed to ward off evil spirits and disease, especially in children. Festivals in her honor were among the most joyful in Egypt, celebrating music, dance, and devotion.
