Dating to the 5th century BCE, such incense stands were used in ritual contexts connected to the worship of Apollo, where fragrant smoke played a central role in purification and divine communication.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"1135\">The maiden figure, shown lifting a bowl above her head, symbolizes devotion, purity, and the human act of service to the gods. At Delphi, incense offerings accompanied prayers, prophecies, and sacrifices made by pilgrims from across the Greek world seeking guidance from the oracle.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1137\" data-end=\"1458\">These sculptural incense stands were produced in mainland Greece during the Classical period and dedicated within sanctuaries as votive offerings.
